Residents
Residents of Athens, IL can receive a library card for free, thanks to the taxes they pay for library services. These cards are valid for one year and provide patrons with access to the library's full collection of books, magazines, and other reading materials. In addition, cardholders can also access the library's collection of ebooks and eaudiobooks.
To obtain a library card, residents can visit the library and bring a photo ID and proof of residency.

Non-Residents
Patrons who live outside Athen’s city limits can obtain a library card by paying a $50 fee at the library. The fee can be paid in cash, by check, or by credit card. One card is valid for the entire household and must be renewed annually.

Students
Recently, district 213 students have been given the opportunity to obtain a free library card.
These cards allow access to all materials in the Athens Library, as well as books or materials ordered from other libraries. However, students are limited to checking out two items at a time and do not have access to the library's collection of ebooks and eaudiobooks.
To obtain a student library card, students can visit the library with a parent or guardian.
